This is another Napa Cab made by Thomas Rivers Brown.  Not inexpensive, but still under $100 isn't bad for a wine with this pedigree.  Inky purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright.  The nose is great with cassis, slight blueberries, slight chocolate, graphite and spice.  Wonderful lush texture.  Lots of energy.  On the palate, firm tannins.  This is very concentrated at this young stage.  It could easily do with a 24 hour decant prior to serving.  Cassis, black plums, with some char and a bit of dry earthiness.  Long finish.  Delicious.  This should continue to improve for the next se

This is an interesting take on Sauvignon Blanc.  Made in Paso Robles but carrying a California AVA.  Light gold in color with a touch of green.  On the nose grapefruit and lemon/lime with slight minerality.  Light bodied.  On the palate, the lemon/lime come thru with a touch of ginger.  Slight bitterness on the finish.  This is drinking well now and should for another five to eight years.  Probably not the type of Sauvignon Blanc to serve at a party to those looking for big fruit, it will work better with lunch or a light dinner.  A sea food salad would work well.

This is a very straight forward, tasty Napa Cab.  Purple in color, ruby at the rim.  Mostly opaque and bright.  The nose has cassis, slight blueberries, spice, and smoke.  Medium to full bodied.  On the palate black raspberries and slight dark chocolate with underlying char.  Easy to drink.  Light tannins.  Nice finish.  Drink over the next five to eight years.  This drinks well on its own and would be a nice match with a steak or burger off the grill.

2019 Carlisle Syrah Sonoma County, USA, California, Wine Review

Vintage:
2019
Score:

Grade:

Consistently one of the great values in California Syrah.  Deep purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has black raspberries, slight char, black pepper and roasted herbs.  Medium to full bodied.  On the palate, this has a great texture.  Black raspberry fruit with underlying meatiness and char.  Delicious.  Nice finish.  This will drink well over the next ten to twelve years.  A nice match with a burger or ribs off the grill.

Score:

Current Price:

There is not a lot of great Riesling bottles from California, but this one is consistently pretty good and perhaps a bit better in this vintage.  Light gold/green in color, clear and bright.  The nose is nice with apples and some minerality.  Light to medium bodied.  On the palate, this is dry with moderately crisp acidity.  Green apple notes carry thru to the palate.  Nice finish.  This should drink well over the next seven to ten years.  This can be consumed with or without food.  Shellfish would be a nice choice.

Vintage:

Score:

Grade:

Current Price:
$200.00USD

This is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot.   Purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright.  The nose is great with cassis, blueberries, cedar, spice and char.    Lush, velvety texture but lots of vibrancy.  On the palate, cassis and blueberry fruit with underlying tobacco and char.  Long finish.  This is still developing and will be for a decade.  That said it is delicious now and will continue to drink well for another fifteen to twenty years.  It drinks very well on its own and will work with bigger, fattier foods such as prime rib or a roasted veggie pizza.

From the Larkmead Vineyard and made by Thomas Rivers Brown.  Inky purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has cassis, cedar,  blueberries, and spice.  Full bodied.  Firm tannins.  On the palate, this has juicy cassis fruit with some black cherries and some blueberries over cedar and char.  Still quite young, this should improve over the next eight to ten years and drink well for ten to fifteen after that.  Delicious and complex.  Right now this drinks better on its own and will need big flavors to stand up to it but with time it will settle down.  For now, braised short ribs would be

2007 Pott Wine Cabernet Sauvignon St. Ralph The Liar White Cottage Ranch, USA, California, Napa, Howell Mountain, Wine Review

Vintage:
2007
Score:

Grade:

This is a brooding wine that is just starting to open up.  It improved with air.  Purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose is concentrated with cassis, iodine, graphite and spice.  Full bodied.  Medium tannins.  The palate is also concentrated with cassis and spice.  Deep but stubborn.  Give it a decant.  Drink over the next ten to fifteen years. This will work well with grilled lamb chops or grilled portabellas.

Not the best vintage for this wine but it still showed nicely.  Purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has cherries and spice.  Medium bodied.  On the palate, there is some complexity.  This seems to be at or maybe just past peak.  Sour cherries with an underlying spice.  Moderate finish.  Drink over the next five years.  For those who like sweetbreads, this would be a nice match.

2014 Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir Summa Old Vines, USA, California, Sonoma Coast, Wine Review

Vintage:
2014
Score:

Grade:

Deep ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright.  The nose has some funk with black cherry fruit.  On the palate, there is plenty of depth.  It is very tight and needs more time.  Some black cherry and sour cherry fruit with underlying earthiness.  Nice finish.  Probably best to hold another five to seven years and then drink for twenty after that.  This would work well with Grilled Salmon.  Lots of upside for those who are patient.
