This is labelled as Pinot Noir (not Spatburgunder) from Germany. 14% abv. Very pale, light ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose is warm with camphor and light cherries. Medium bodied. On the palate, light cherries, slight anise. This is light and easy, but for the money, a nice wine to serve at parties. Drink on its own or will work with pasta or chicken. Drink now.
Nice to check in on this wine again. Richter makes some of the best values in German Riesling. This is delightful. Light yellow gold in color.
From one of the premier German Riesling producers. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is wonderful with slight pineapple, peach and wet rocks. Medium bodied. On the palate, this is slightly sweet (demi-sec). Slightly viscous texture. Flavors of peach and grapefruit with a touch of smoke and lots of minerals. Long finish. Delicious. This drinks well now and should continue to for the next twelve to fifteen years. It will work with a wide variety of foods from aperitifs to dessert or just on its own. Grilled prawns would be a nice match.
This is their base wine that comes screw topped. Light golden in color. The nose is nice with tropical fruits, wet stones and slight peaches. On the palate, the fruit matches. Showing a bit of complexity but still young. Great acidity. Great balance. Nice texture. Long finish. Drink over the next 15 years. This will work on its own or with a wide variety of foods. Fruit salads or a peach cobbler would work well.
This is the basic Riesling from one of the best producers of Riesling in the world. Light green/gold in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with pineapples, apples and wet rocks. Medium bodied with some viscosity. Slightly sweet. On thee palate, flavors of pineapple with great minerality. Long finish. This is drinking well now and should easily do another seven to ten years. It drinks great on its own and would work well with a lighter salad.
Pale golden in color. The nose is interesting with plenty of salinity along with minerals and slight tropical fruits. On the palate, sour lemon candy with underlying minerality. Some depth and complexity. Dry. Good acidity. Nice finish. This should drink well for the next ten to fifteen years. It is very food friendly and will work with most food. Thai food would be a fun choice.
I love Donnhoff wines and they did quite well in 2010. This one seems to be just about at peak. Medium golden in color. The nose is lovely with wet rock/minerality and a bit of peaches and slight pineapple. Medium bodied. Slightly viscous. Great acidity. On the palate, this is slightly sweet but not overblown for a Kabinett. Pineapple, peach and some lemon with a nice minerals base. Long finish. This is delicious on its own but will work with seafood or fruit salads. It should continue to drink well for another ten to fifteen years.
Brilliant showing for this wine. Showing a hint of age at 16 years from vintage. Golden in color. The nose is clean with Crème brûlée, minerality and slight red fruits. Medium to full bodied. Viscous. On the palate, this is sweet and rich but enough acidity to cut through it. The Crème brûlée comes thru to the palate but very concentrated. Long finish. Delicious. This is great on its own or with some cheeses. Should have no problem going another fifteen to twenty years.
This is labelled Blue Slate but there is also one available labelled as "Blauschiefer" which means Blue Slate. Is this an export label? Perhaps. Ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is tight but opens to chow cherries and baking spices. On the palate, this has black cherry fruit with a hint of root beer. Almost like a very, very elegant old style Sonoma Coast. A nice depth and complexity despite its youth. Moderate tannins. Good finish. This took a while to open and if serving now, give it a good decant. This probably needs another five to seven years, to get close to
Garnet in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is tight but opens to show black cherry fruit with slight spice. On the palate, this is ripe and bigger. Tart cherry fruit with light tannins. Nice finish. This is drinking well now and should continue for seven to ten years. This will work well with heavier sea food dishes.
