Valle de Uco

This is made from organic grapes in Argentina.  Screw capped.  Silvery gold in color, clear and bright.  Very reflective as it picks up the color of anything nearby.  The nose is initially tight, but with about an hour or air, opens nicely.  A bit of lemon/lime notes.  Medium bodied.  On the palate, much more open initially.  Concentrated.  The lemon/lime comes thru turning mostly lime on the finish.  Very refreshing.  Dry.  This was very popular and got better over two nights of tasting.  That said, it probably should be consumed over the next few years.  Nice on its own, this will work we

This is made from 100% organically grown Pinot Noir grapes from the foothills of the Andes (4,000 feet) in Argentina.  13.1% ABV.  Very attractive packaging.  Salmon copper in color, very light, clear and bright.  The nose is nice, clean with strawberries and watermelons.  Medium bodied, slightly viscous and slightly tart on the palate.  Refreshing.  The nose has cherries and rhubarb with a nice minerality.  This is a reasonably serious Rosé with some depth.  There is some noticeable alcohol/warmth on the moderate finish.  It took about 30 minutes to open and then drank well on it own.  Thi

This is a sparkling wine made from 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay from Argentina.  The grapes used are grown organically at an altitude of 4,000 feet.  It has a pretty salmon pink/orange color with a nice mousse of many smaller bubbles.  The nose is very nice with strawberries and cranberries and a slight ginger note.  On the palate, this is slightly sweet (12 gr/l residual sugar) but still refreshing.  it drinks quite easily with nice strawberry and cherry fruit.  The best thing about this wine is the price.  It retails for $13 a bottle which makes this perfect for anytime quaffing (and

This is an inexpensive Malbec from Argentina that shows why they can be great value plays.  Purple in color with ruby at the rim.  The nose has dusty black cherries, slight black cherries and black pepper.  On the palate, this is medium to full bodied.  Firm, thick tannins.  The black cherries come out more on the palate.  This is straightforward and easy to drink.  It could probably use a year or so for the tannins to integrate more but if opening now, either decant ot let it breathe for a couple of hours.  This drinks well on its own but would work better with a bit of fat.  Either some b

This is another nice value play from Argentina.  It is an upfront, tasty wine that is affordable to most.  Purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose is nice with plums, black cherries and dust.  Full bodied.  This is ripe but dry.  Lots of juicy black cherries and plums on the palate.  Light tannins.  Easy to drink.  This works great on its own and would work well with a burger off the grill.  Drink over the next few years.  

I am not a huge Malbec fan in general but if I were, this is not a style of Malbec I would choose.  So, take this review with a grain of salt.  Purple in color, ruby at the rim.  The nose has cherries, slight plums and green bell pepper.  On the palate, there is an overt acidity to this wine that seems misplaced.  It has a nice full bodied texture.  Tart cherry fruit with a green bell pepper back bone.  Clipped finish.  I tried this at a local wine shop and some of the other patrons seemed to enjoy this more than I.  It isn't going to get any better so drink now.  

This is a blend of 80% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Ancellotta.  It is a big wine made from Estate grown fruit in Paraje Altamira.  It is a big wine that clocks in at 14% Abv although it seems a bit higher.  It is also delicious and makes a great drink when sitting around with friends.  Deep purple in color.  The nose has plums, some black raspberries, spice and slight coffee bean.  On the palate, this has medium tannins.  It is thick and voluptuous.  Plums and cassis flavors with some oak.  Slightly ripe/sweet on the finish.  A fun wine that should be consumed in the next few yea

A "natural" wine, whatever that means.  It is an unusual take on Chenin Blanc.  Tasted a wine store tasting, this was my second time getting an opportunity to try this and it seemed like it has improved (or this was a better bottle).  Lighter in color than a previous bottle, so perhaps the first bottle had been oxidized a bit.  Light gold, clear and bright.  The nose is different with cardamom, and orange pith.  On the palate, this has tart oranges.  Strong acidity.  12% Alc.  It finishes a bit salty which is different and probably makes it more food friendly.  It was priced at $12 on close

Supposedly this is a natural wine.  Those can be good but often have some spoilage and similar issue.  There was nothing here to say this was affected, but it is a very odd wine that might have limited appeal.  On the other hand, it retails for around $15, so, especially for a wine geek, it might be worth checking out.  Deep golden in color (does this see extended skin contact?).  The nose is a bit odd.  Some sweaty undershirt quality to it.  A bit of dill.  Some tangerine fruit lurking in the background.  On the palate, it is hard to describe.  Kind of like apples that fall under a tree an

70% Malbec, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Syrah, 5% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot.  From the family that owns Leoville Poyferre in Bordeaux.  Purple/ruby in color.  The nose is warm and slightly musty (not in an off way).  Also has some cassis and plums.  On the palate, this drinks like a Bordeaux; fruit, tobacco and earth.  Black raspberries and plums.  Slight tannins.  It has a nice depth and seems to be closing in on maturity.  A bit soft but within reason.  Would work with roasted or grilled meats quite well.  No hurry, but won't get better and probably should be drunk in the next five years.
