Marlborough

Light golden in color.  The nose is mostly about melons with slight tropical fruit notes.  On the palate, this wine is soft.  It is easy to drink and tasty though I expected a bit more energy/acidity.  It will work with lighter foods and seafood.  

This is made by Peter Rossback who is better known for his wines from Oregon and Washington in the US.  During his slower season, he heads down to New Zealand where he sources grapes to make Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.  This one is getting a bit long in the tooth and would have been better served being opened a couple of years ago.  Silvery gold in color.  The nose has a bit of gooseberries and minerals but is pretty light.  On the palate, there is some lemon peel and minerals.  Shorter finish.  Nothing bad about this wine but at this age (3 years from vintage), it has lost its zing.  

Pale, silvery gold in color.  The nose has melons with some gooseberries.  Also an underlying minerality.  On the palate, this is slightly tart with a bit of lemon cream pie.  It has a nice creamy texture.  Good finish.  A pleasant wine that should be consumed now.  It will work with lighter foods or on its own.  

Pale silvery gold in color.  The nose is yellow grapefruit juice; classic.  On the palate, the grapefruit continues.  This has a nice depth with good acidity.  Nice finish.  This should be drunk now.  Plenty of enjoyment on its own or with lighter foods.  

A pretty classic version of a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.  For those looking for this, and there are many fans, this is a well priced alternative to many of the standards that have risen in price over the last decade.  Light golden in color.  The nose has gooseberries or maybe passions fruit (I need to visit a grocery store and compare the two).  Slightly oily texture.  Tart gooseberries on the palate.  A bit metallic on the finish.  This is crisp and easy.  Fresh.  It should be drunk this summer.  Probably more likely to be drunk on its own but will work with fruit salads and other lighte

Light golden in color some green.  The nose has classic gooseberries but some peach as well.  Dry on the palate.  Good acidity.  For the most part a pretty classic NZ SB.  This retails for $11 which is an excellent value for this wine.  Will drink well on its own and work with lighter foods.  

This was tried from Magnum.  A Magnum retails for $15.  That is crazy.  And, you know what, it's not bad at all.  Silvery green in color.  The nose has grapefruit and slight crushed shells.  On the palate, this is clean with grapefruit notes.  Very solid and refreshing not much depth but good energy.  Food friendly.  Amazing value.  

This is an inexpensive white wine from New Zealand.  A great choice for casual drinking at parties.  Light gold in color.  The nose has tropical fruits, gooseberry although not over the top.  On the palate, this is slightly sweet.  Still nice tropical fruit.  Easy drinking on its own.  Works with lighter foods.   

Screw capped.  Ruby in color, clear and bright.  In Pinot Noir, color often means little but this does have a very pretty lighter color.  The nose has cherries, slight smoke, rhubarb and slight celery notes.  It has a very soft, feminine texture.  On the palate, tart cherries with a slight bitter/herbal note on the finish.  12.5% alcohol on the label.   If you are looking for a bit, fruity wine, this is not that.  This is a lower alcohol wine that works well with food and is better situated to the dinner table than being drunk as a cocktail.  Not for everyone, but for those who are searchin

This is from New Zealand.  Screw capped.  Light gold/green in color, clear at the rim.  The nose is nice with mostly minerals but a bit of a steely quality to it.  Varietally correct.  On the palate, a slightly oily texture which is nice.  Slight grapefruit.  Good acidity.  Easy drinking.  Long finish.  Not a typical New Zealand wine in that it is more about the minerals than the fruit, but a lot of that is the varietal.  Worked well with food.  Around $18, this is a good value and a nice summer sipper.
