This was tried from Magnum. A Magnum retails for $15. That is crazy. And, you know what, it's not bad at all. Silvery green in color. The nose has grapefruit and slight crushed shells. On the palate, this is clean with grapefruit notes. Very solid and refreshing not much depth but good energy. Food friendly. Amazing value.
Light golden in color some green. The nose has classic gooseberries but some peach as well. Dry on the palate. Good acidity. For the most part a pretty classic NZ SB. This retails for $11 which is an excellent value for this wine. Will drink well on its own and work with lighter foods.
This is made by Peter Rossback who is better known for his wines from Oregon and Washington in the US. During his slower season, he heads down to New Zealand where he sources grapes to make Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. This one is getting a bit long in the tooth and would have been better served being opened a couple of years ago. Silvery gold in color. The nose has a bit of gooseberries and minerals but is pretty light. On the palate, there is some lemon peel and minerals. Shorter finish. Nothing bad about this wine but at this age (3 years from vintage), it has lost its zing.
We are big fans of Kirkland (Costco) products including their wines. They contract with quality vendors to makes legitimate wines at a fair price. This is no exception. A straight down the middle New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Light gold/green in color. The nose has grapefruits, gooseberry and slight herbal notes. Light to medium bodied. Slightly viscous. On the palate, this is dry but has good bright fruit. Gooseberries and some grapefruits. Good acidity. Long finish.
