Cabernet Sauvignon

This bottle was brought to our house by friends.  Frankly, I am not sure who as it was a party and then left unopened.  My wife was having book club, and so it seemed like a good choice.  This proved to be very popular and it was lucky I got a glass to taste.  A very interesting wine.  Purple in color.  The nose has cassis, some dustiness to it, and just a hint of what can best be described as sweet oak.  On the palate, there are strong tannins.  The cassis follows thru but there is a sweetness to the wine that is similar to that of Bourbon Barrel Aged beers although not nearly as pronounce

Purple in color.  The nose is ok with cherries and dust.  On the palate, this is easy drinking.  Cherries with some underling spice.  Nice texture.  Nothing wrong but nothing exciting either except the price.  This is around $15 which is a nice price for a party.  

Wow.  Dark purple in color, to the rim.  What a great nose.  The kind of nose one could just sniff all evening.  Cassis, graphite, slight chocolate, slight cedar and slight spice.  The nose itself it big but not overblown.  On the palate, the texture is gorgeous.  Seamless, velvety and round yet muscular enough.  Layers of fruit tightly layered with chocolate and slight dry earth.  Complex and deep.  Dee-licious.  Gulpable but then it demands attention.  Medium tannins.  Long finish.  This will require bigger foods and meat but this is a classic Napa Cab to just drink by itself.  It is that

Wow.  This is drinking great but may yet hit that 100 point mark.  Purple in color.  The nose has cassis, blueberries, smoke, gravel and graphite.  All of those come thru to the palate along with some roasted meats.  Firm tannins.  Drunk over two nights, it was fresher on Night one and deeper on night two.  Fantastic both nights.  This will probably follow that path as it matures.  Will work with meats and heartier foods.  

This is their basic Cabernet from a winery that makes both Washington and Oregon wines.  Purple in color.  The nose has cassis, sandalwood and fresh cut lumber.  On the palate, this has medium tannins.  There is a fair amount of oak, but also plenty of cassis fruit.  Easy drinking.  Good finish.  For a $30 Cab, this is a nice value.  Some depth.  Needs a couple of years and drink over the next five to seven after that.  

An Argentina blend that is 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Malbec, 19% Petit Verdot and 10% Tannat.  Purple/ruby in color.  This took some time to open and though not necessarily better on Day 2, it was different.  The nose is dust with cherries, plums and an herbal note (tarragon?).  On day 2, it went more to black and blue fruits.  The palate has black cherries and plums with underlying dry earth and baking spice.  On Day 2, again it picks up more plums but also blueberries.  Tannins really come out on Day 2.  This win should match well with grilled and roasted meats and other hearty foods. 

This is the third review on Intowine for this wine and all three score 100 points.  This is a great wine!  It is debatable how long this will last but betting the over seems like a safe bet.  Time will tell of course,  This bottle was from Magnum that got a lot of air prior to serving.  Purple in color.  The nose has cedar, cassis, blueberries, spice leather and graphite.  Clean and deep.  On the palate, this is big but has wonderful structure to hang all of that fruit on.  Cassis and blueberries with spice and slight damp earth.  Deep and wide with layers that unwind in the glass.  It's de

One of the stalwarts of Napa cabs since the early 90's.  Purple in color.  The nose is great with cassis, some graphite, spice and char.  On the palate, this is slightly sweet jammy fruit but also has depth and tight complexity.  Firm tannins.  It is delicious but not giving up a lot of the complexity that it will have.  Cassis and black cherry fruit along with fresh cut lumber and char.  No doubt this is all to be expected and needs at least five years to calm down and sort itslef out and should be a gorgeous wine.  As it is today, it is fantastic for those who want big deep Cal Cabs and i

This is a joint venture between Rothschild and Catena to make a luxury wine.  Caro means expensive.  it is a blend of 50/50 Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.  Purple in color, ruby at the rim.  The nose is dusty with plums and black cherries.  Also some smoke.  On the palate, the black cherries predominate but also some plums over some charred wood.  It is ripe and a ever so faintly sweet which is probably just ripe fruit.  This will work with big meat dishes and certainly on its own.  Seems to be drinking well now if a bit young.  It should have the potential to mature nicely for a decade and
