2015 Tenuta di Trinoro Le Cupole Toscana IGT, Italy, Tuscany, Wine Review

This is a Bordeaux blend Super Tuscan wine from one of the top producers in Tuscany. It is one of their less expensive offerings and is always an outstanding wine. This wine is surprisingly open and drinking well already considering that 2015 is an outstanding vintage in Tuscany. Purple in color with ruby swirls. The nose has cassis, black cherries, slight tobacco and spice. On the palate, this has a nice juiciness to it. Black cherry fruit dominates at this point with some underlying tobacco/earth. Light tannins. Nice finish. This might still improve but either way should be good for at least five to seven more years. It will go will with meat and fowl based dishes and of course, pizza.

Always an outstanding wine and a great value and that is true in this challenging vintage. It is a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is great with black currants, black cherries, slight chocolate and char. Medium to full bodied. A nice streak of acidity keeps it lively. The fruit carries thru to the palate. Medium tannins. Deep if tight right now. Good finish. A delightful wine that is a step or two above a entry level super Tuscan. It is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. Deep ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has cherries, sandalwood, slight chocolate and spice. Medium bodied. On the palate, there are upfront cherries supported with nice acidity. It broadens on the palate to a variety of cherry flavors with touch of tea leaves. Nice finish. Le Marche (pronounced lay Mar-kay) is a region in central Italy that borders the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Apennines to the west. Le Marche borders Emilia-Romagna to the north, Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio to the west, and Abruzzi to the south. The terrain is mostly hills and mountains once you get away from the coast. The area has a long history matching most of the historic conquests of Italy: it was occupied by the Gaul’s, colonized by the Romans, later it was invaded by the Goths and Lombard’s, then by Charlemagne. It was then mostly a papal state before finally being annexed in the mid-1800’s by the kingdom of Italy.

This is the second label of Sassicaia. It is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Tasted at a tasting with more Sangiovese grapes did not help this wine. Nor did the fact that this was from a not very good vintage in Tuscany and many of the others were from better vintages. Still, this wine was a favorite of some. Deep garnet in color. The nose has tart cherries, some cassis, some tobacco and green bell pepper. On the palate, the tannins are fully resolved. Good acidity. Slightly bitter cherries with some forest floor. Short finish. It is a good reason to drink wines

This is the entry level wine from this producer of Sassicaia. It is 70 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 30 % Sangiovese. And, from a great vintage, this wine showed very well. Ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose has black cherries, cherries, sandalwood and light strawberries. Medium bodied. On the palate, the cherries and strawberries are there. No tannins. Bright acidity. A delicious wine but probably needs to be consumed in the first few years. It drinks great on its own but will work with lighter foods or pizza and pasta.
