Opened by a friend to celebrate another friends birthday.  70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay.  Light golden in color.  A nice head with lots of smallish bubbles.  The nose is nice with burnt hay and slight citrus.  On the palate, there is some citrus and minerals.  Long finish.  Good acidity.  This is very food friendly and will work with a wide variety of foods.

Excellent showing for this wine.  Light silvery gold in color.  A nice mousse with lots of smaller bubbles.  On the nose, nice red apples notes with just the slightest bit of nuttiness (almonds?).  Full bodied but not flamboyant.  Lots of minerals and apples on the palate.  Good acidity.  Worked well with roasted chickpeas and almonds.  Long finish.  This has a very nice complexity to it and though it tastes mature, it seems like there is still some room to go further.  Very dry finish.  It is listed as Brut Nature so that makes sense.

This is a nice value in 1er Cru Champagne.  It drinks very well right now.  Light golden in color with a nice head of small bubbles.  The nose is nice with a green apple note along with some faint toast qualities.  In general, this is more on the austere side of Champagne which is not a bad thing.  Plenty of acidity.  Long finish.  This was served to friends at the start of the evening along side some roasted chick peas and that proved a fine pairing a great start to the evening.  I don't think this will improve and these bottles, purchased in the last year, should be drunk in the next year

Opened to celebrate my son's 23rd birthday.  Light golden in color, clear and bright.  The mousse is thick with lots of tiny bubbles.  On the nose, this is mostly mineral driven but there are some green apples and slight toast.  On the palate, this veers toward the leaner side but not all the way.  Green apple fruit with a nice minerality.  Good acid.  Long finish.  Went great with a shaved mushroom with lemon juice salad.

Light golden in color.  The nose is nice with hay, seltzer and slight ginger.  Excellent acidity.  On the palate, slight cider/oxidized notes.  Also a bit of fresh red apples.  Very nice balance.  Long finish.  This is very food friendly and will go with just about any food.  It seems like this should last for at least a decade and develop a bit more.

An excellent bottle of Champagne.  Light golden in color with a nice mousse of fine bubbles.  On the palate, this has red apples, slight ginger, minerals and a bit of saline.  On the palate, this is a bigger wine.  More so than prior vintages which is not bad or good.  It is still a very crisp wine which is a good thing.  Slight citrus, slight green apples and lots of minerality.  A long/tart finish.  This will go with a wide variety of foods and is delicious on its own.  At $60 per bottle, this is fairly priced.

Deep ruby in color.  The nose has cherries and slight strawberries.  Good acidity.  On the palate, strawberries.  A bit of orange peel on the finish.  The finish is long and tart (in a good way).  A very refreshing bottle of Champagne.  A bit less complex but at the same time, it has a very nice intensity to it.  Very food friendly with almost any food.  12.5% Alc.

This is a wonderful Champagne.  Light silvery gold in color.  A nice mousse with lots of tiny bubbles.  The nose is clean with seltzer, minerals and as it opens, slight cherry notes.  On the palate, this has great tart acidity.  Lots of lemons and some quince.  As it warms, some vanilla comes out.  Long chalky finish.  This is very young but drinking quite well right now.  Will go with just about any food.  Give it a few years and it will probably earn a perfect score.

California makes some mighty fine Sparkling wines.  Sometimes they get dismissed as do many wines not from Champagne.  The truth is that there are great sparkling wines being made all over the world.  Light golden in color.  A nice bead of small bubbles.  The nose is nice with some yeast, a bit of ginger and slight strawberries.  Also some muskiness.  On the palate, this is fresh and lively.  It has a nice depth and complexity.  Decent acidity.  Worked great to start the evening but would also work great with food.  It would be interesting to watch this develop and mature over the next few
