2008 Trimbach Riesling Reserve, France, Alsace, Wine Review

This is a relatively inexpensive (although the price has probably doubled since this was released) Riesling from one of the top producers in Alsace.  At age 16, it is drinking nicely.  Light golden in color, clear and bright.  The nose is clean, no petrol, with some apples, light citrus and a hint of minerality.  Medium bodied.  Slightly viscous.  Moderate acidity.  On the palate, this is dry.  Apples and minerals.  Some lemons.  Moderate finish.  This is past prime but still offering up something.  Drink up.  This is better with food.  It worked with a Spinach-Artichoke dip.  No easy feat.

Light yellow gold in color, clear and bright.  The nose has a lot of fruit; pineapples and peaches with some minerality.  Clean.  Medium bodied.  On the palate, this is sweet but not overtly.  Flavors of pineapple, peach and minerals.  Modest acidity.  Good finish.  This is an easy drinking Riesling that should please most palates.  It is lovely on its own and will work nicely with lighter foods.  It would work well with Chicken Salad.  Drink over the next seven to ten years.

As the name implies, the grapes for this wine were fermented (five months) in Amphora and bottled with minimal sulfur.  Medium golden in color, clear and bright.  The nose is very aromatic with quince, dried flowers and slight honeyed note.  Medium bodied.  On the palate, citrus and quince with some minerality.  Good finish.  An interesting take on Riesling.  It should drink well for another ten years or so.  Food friendly, this would work with Wiener Schnitzel.

This is their basic Riesling.  Light gold in color, clear and bright.  The nose is great with some citrus, honeydew and minerality.  Medium bodied.  On the palate, this is dry.  Melon with minerals and a bit of salinity.  Good acidity.  Long finish.  This is nice on its own but better with food.  This will work with almost any food.  Try it with fried chicken.  Drink over the next eight to twelve years.

This is their basic Rielsing.  it is a great value and while not at the level of complexity of their more expensive wines, it still provides a lot.  Light silvery/gold in color with just a touch of green hues.  On the nose, peaches, minerals and slight honeyed notes.  Light to medium bodied.  Slightly viscous.  Slightly sweet but definitely sweet.  Peaches with slight pineapple.  Nice minerality.  Good finish.  This drinks easy and the bottle is soon finished.  Drink over the next five years.  It will work well with Thai or Indian foods.

Pale yellow/gold in color, clear and bright.  The nose has slight pineapple along with nectarines and minerality.  Medium bodied.  Good acidity.  On the palate, this is dry.  A bit  herbaceous but also nectarine notes and minerals.  Good finish.  This is fine on its own but better with food.  It would work well with Thai food or lighter salads.  Drink over the next five to eight years.

This was ordered off the list at Copper in Charlotte, NC.  It went quite well with spicy vegetarian Indian cuisine.  Light golden in color, clear and bright.  The nose has some peach, matchstick and minerality.  Medium bodied.  Slightly viscous.  Strong acidity.  On the palate, this is slightly  sweet but maybe less than expected which was nice for a Kabinett.  Flavors of peach and minerals.  Long finish.  This is drinking well at this point but should have at least a dozen years left.

From the excellent 2015 vintage.  This is a bit different from "typical" Rieslings.  Light golden in color with a touch of green hues, clear and bright.  The nose is mineral drive with minerality, slight lemons, and petrichor.  Medium bodied. On the palate, minerality with a bit of lemons.  Good acidity.  Long finish.  This is a wine that really needs food to shine.  It would work nicely with crab or chicken salad.  Drink over the next four to seven years.

My first time trying this wine and I was impressed.  Light golden in color, clear and bright.  The nose has great minerality/wet rocks with slight lemon candy notes.  Medium bodied.  Crisp with a slightly viscous texture.  Dry.  On the palate, this is deep.  Lemons, minerality with good acidity.  That said, no hard edges.  Very  smooth.  Very long finish.  This is drinking well now on its own and is very food friendly.  It worked well with roasted Brussels Sprouts (a difficult match) but would be great with almost any seafood as well.  Drink over the next ten to fifteen years.
