This is the first year that this wine was made. It is a blend of Syrah and Petite Sirah. At age 20, this seems to be at peak. It is drinking great with no signs of being over the hill. Deep ruby in color, purple at the rim (a nice sign of youth). The nose is all about boysenberries along with hints of black pepper and some charred wood. This is a blend of 87% Syrah and 13% Petite Sirah. At age ten this is just starting to come into its own. We drank this side by side with a 1999 which was illustrative. Deep ruby in color with some purple swirls. The nose is big with black raspberries, char and minerals. A wonderful, full bodied texture. Black raspberry fruit over a char/mineral/earthy base. Bonterra wines are made from organically farmed grapes. This is a blend of mostly Merlot and Petite Sirah. It is a different take, a bit lighter and easier, but a delicious and well priced wine. Deep ruby in color, lighter at the rim, mostly clear and bright. The nose has raspberries and cranberries with a bit of char. This is the home winery from longtime Beringer winemaker, Ed Sbragia. This is an accessible Merlot that is drinking well right now. Purple in color. The nose has cherries, slight tobacco and slight chocolate. On the palate, there is not a lot of depth but the cherries are strong. A bit of a char underneath. Some tobacco on the finish. It seems like it should probably be drunk in the next few years. It will work well with burgers or pasta and has enough flavor to drink on its own. It has 95% Merlot and 5% Petite Sirah.
From the producers of Sine Qua Non, this is the 7th edition of this wine. The label says 15.8% but there is no hint of heat. This vintage is a blend of 45% Syrah, 29% Grenache, 15% Petite Sirah, 5% Mourvèdre, 4.5% Touriga Nacional and 1.5% Roussanne. Inky purple in color. The nose has black raspberries, red licorice, black pepper, baking spices with a bit of leather/earth. On the palate, this is rich. Almost seamless. This is a blend of 54% Syrah, 21% Mourvèdre, 16% Grenache and 9% Petite Sirah. It is a big wine that really needed some time to settle down. Even 6 years from vintage isn't really enough. That said, with a couple hours of air, this was drinking beautifully. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has black raspberries, plums, black cherries, and spice. Perhaps a bit of black pepper. On the palate, this is thick and big. A bit chunky on opening but it smoothed out with air. Lots of black raspberry fruit with some black cherries. Usually, I like to let Saxum's age more, but this one is 45% Zinfandel, so we popped the cork. Good move. Also it has 36% Mourvedre, 12% Tempranillo and 7% Petite Sirah. Weighs in at just under 16% ABV. Inky purple in color. The nose is big with black cherries, plums, black raspberries, some earthiness and spice. On the palate, there is no heat. Juicy black cherries, and black raspberries. Some underlying char. Long finish. This is delicious but will be a tough food match. Maybe some BBQ with spicy sauce? This is an inexpensive wine made from 85% Zinfandel and 15% Petite Sirah. It is aged in one and two year old French oak barrels. This is a nice wine to serve at parties and cook outs. It will be popular with people who enjoy a nice glass of red. Purple/ruby in color. The nose has black raspberries, raspberries, some black cherries along with a bit of cola and spice. On the palate, black cherries, black raspberries and a bit of black pepper. Easy drinking. Nothing harsh. Not a lot of acidity. Ripe fruit. This is a wine to drink now.
This is a red blend that is 48% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the rest Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. It is a delicious wine that is drinking well but will likely improve with some cellar time. Deep ruby in color with some purple at the core. The nose shows black raspberries, cherries, dark chocolate, spice and cigar box. On the palate, this is medium to full bodied. Moderate tannins. This is a blend of grapes from Napa (Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Malbec and Petite Sirah) combined with Syrah from Sonoma. It is a pretty big and jammy style of red wine. The nose has black raspberries, black cherries, graphite, baking spices and a bit of chocolate. Rich texture. A nice varietal complexity. Light tannins. This is ready to drink now. Lots of purple and dark red fruits. Tasty. Probably better served as a glass on the deck but it will work with bolder foods. Probably best if drunk in the next year or two as the exuberance and energy are what this wine is all about
