This is an excellent value in wine that comes from south of San Francisco. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, char, and black pepper. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, the black raspberry fruit comes thru. Some complexity. Long finish. This is great on its own and works well with meat, pork or fowl dishes. Drink over the next eight to ten years.
Petite Sirah is a very interesting grape. Some wines are made to be consumed young but most need a little to a long time. This one is not quite there but almost. It is a grape that might be better suited to blending although its fans are strong (of which I am one). The flavors are deep and intense but not boisterous. This one is deep purple in color. The nose has boysenberries, slight plums, dark chocolate and tarragon. With air, a bit of black pepper. On the palate, this is medium bodied. Another winner from Jaffurs although this is still quite young. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black raspberries, grilled meats, slight char and a whiff of violets. Full bodied. Very tight on the palate, it took some time to open. Once it did, plenty of black raspberries, some blueberries, with underlying roasted herbs. Good acidity. Long finish. This needs another five years and should drink well for ten to twelve after that. It drinks well on its own and will work well with pork or beef roast.
I am told this is a blend of 63% Petite Sirah, 22% Grenache, and 15% Syrah which makes me wonder how they can call it a Petite Sirah? In California a wine needs at least 75% of the varietal if it is listed on the label. In any event, the wine is quite nice. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The cork crumbled on opening and the wine was decanted. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, char, slight ink scent and a bit of blueberries. Full bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, the blueberries are more pronounced and plenty of boysenberries with underlying char. Still has youthful energy. Good finish. This is drinking well now but still young. No harm opening or letting it age another ten to fifteen years. It probably won't get much better. It will work well with pizza, burger but also roasts and grilled foods.
