2015 Jaffurs Petite Sirah Thompson Vineyard, USA, California, Santa Barbara, Wine Review

Another winner from Jaffurs although this is still quite young. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black raspberries, grilled meats, slight char and a whiff of violets. Full bodied. Very tight on the palate, it took some time to open. Once it did, plenty of black raspberries, some blueberries, with underlying roasted herbs. Good acidity. Long finish. This needs another five years and should drink well for ten to twelve after that. It drinks well on its own and will work well with pork or beef roast.

This is starting to come into its own but still is young and really needs more time. Pop and pour, this should have been decanted. Purple in color. The nose has black raspberries, an underlying char with some peppery notes. On the palate, this is concentrated but has a lot of black raspberry fruit. Dense. Medium tannins. Worked well with spicy Chile Relenos. It could use a few more years of cellaring and there is some slight upside for that.

Wow, did this bottle exceed expectations (and they were pretty high). It really grabs one's attention. Though still on the young side, it is drinking great. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is big with black raspberries, roasted meats, slight clove, plums and just a bit of graphite. Full bodied. Rich texture. Deep and complex. Juicy acidity. Lots of black raspberry fruit with underlying roasted meats and herbs. Long finish. This seems like it is closing in on peak. I am told this is a blend of 63% Petite Sirah, 22% Grenache, and 15% Syrah which makes me wonder how they can call it a Petite Sirah? In California a wine needs at least 75% of the varietal if it is listed on the label. In any event, the wine is quite nice. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, gravel, and roasted herbs. Full bodied. Light to medium tannins. On the palate, black raspberries with char and a bit of gravel. Good finish. Surprisingly open and drinking well with just a bit of air. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black raspberries, some blueberries, slight char and a bit of black pepper. Full bodied. Juicy texture. On the palate, this is deep with some complexity. Certainly, it will gain complexity with more ageing. Another winner from de Negoce. While this wine will undoubtedly get better and mature over time, this drinks nicely now and for the money, it is hard not to open a bottle now. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, char, and slight spice. Full bodied. Deep. Tight. On the palate, this took an hour or three to really open. A decant would be a good idea. Very tasty with boysenberry fruit and underlying char. Not crazy wild but not shy either.
