This is the most approachable Cabernet Sauvignon Spottswoode has produced in years. Though certainly drinkable now, this wine has several years of age on it worthy of cellaring. Typical of Spottswoode, there is great defined balance between fruit, acidity, tannic structure, and oak. It is this deftly handled balance that makes these Cabernets so wonderful. The fruit is muted and soft, with hints of blueberry, huckleberry, boysenberry, blackberry compote along with green tea leaf, soft dusty tannins, leather, and light cocoa overtones. Aged for 20 months in mainly French oak, this iteration is comprised of predominately Cabernet Sauvignon along with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, all harvested from their estate.
