This has more in common with wines from Italy and Europe than American Zinfandel. Often times American Zinfandel is expressed in a very jammy fruit forward style. Here at the approach is more subdued so the fruit is evident, but it’s not a fruit bomb. The wine will definitely benefit from an hour of decanting to pull down the initial overt fruit and potent acidity. That aeration brings moderation to the wine. A slight earthiness comes forward and the berry flavors of black cherry, pomegranate, red raspberry, Bing cherry and strawberry compote are all evident. Additionally, there are subtle back notes of wildflower, sage and peppercorn. The wine was aged for 15 months, but in used barrels therefore the oak influence is there, but the fruit is really the star here. 474 cases. ORIGIN: Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma. ALCOHOL: 14.6%
