There is a tactile softness to this wine – it glides over the mouth, smooth as silk. Soft vanilla notes and fresh cut oak tree gives way to muted red and black fruits with their slightly macerated flavors. The acidity and tannins glide around, almost un-noticed. However, all the elements of fruit, wood, spice and tannic structure work together to create a velvety soft wine that is easy (actually too easy) to drink. Cherry infused cocoa powder, blueberry compote, black cherry, light vanilla syrup, a whisper of violets - all these flavors can be accounted for and that is all well and good. But the more pressing issue is this wine drinks incredibly well and elicits the experience of a beautifully crafted wine that is meant to be enjoyed with food over the course of an evening. The second night the viscosity becomes even smoother. The fruit flavors drop a bit but there is still beautiful integration between muted fruit, acidity and tannic structure. This is 100% Cabernet, grown on Chappellet’s Pritchard Hill, therefore the pedigree of the fruit is unquestionable. ORIGIN: Napa Valley. ALCOHOL: 14.9%
