Earlier this month i was lucky enough to stop for a visit and tasting at Domenico Clerico winery in the Piedmont region of Italy. They are one of the foremost producers of Barolo (and other wines) in that area. Cecilia Rocca who is part of the family that owns the winery was kind enough to show us around the winery, talk about the history and philosophy of Domenico Clerico, and lead us thru a tasting.
Clerico has been a favorite in our house for thirty years, so it was great to see a bit of the terroir (it was raining) and the winery. it was also nice to try some of the other wines besides the Barolos which I am familiar with.
To see our tasting notes of the wines tasted, please see: https://www.intowine.com/reviews?region=&varietal=&uid=Loren+Sonkin&score=&grade=All&vintage%5Bvalue%5D%5Byear%5D=&search=Clerico&before=2025-05-21&after=2025-05-12&sort_by=created&sort_order=ASC
if you find yourself in the area, it is highly recommended that you make an appointment and go see for yourself. In the meantime, most of the wines are accessible and affordable at your local wine store. And, with a bit of searching, perhaps you can find an older vintage of Barolo to buy while waiting on the younger wines.
