Luxurious and smooth, this offers blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, a mild acidity and moderate oak treatment (22 months in 71% new French oak) so the vanilla notes come through along with the fruit. The tannins are fairly mild so this is a wine you can open and drink tonight without needing to decant. It’s also a wine that perfectly encapsulates the black cherry-based fruit of the Rutherford AVA. As the wine opens up, you begin to discover more notes of cocoa powder, the famous Rutherford dust, candied almond, black cherry compote, and wild herbs. This definitely offers some of the powerhouse feel that you would expect from Rutherford Cabernet, yet it is also approachable and harmoniously crafted. And for a wine that is exclusively Cabernet Sauvignon based without the addition of any other grapes, this is a success. 155 cases.
