Carlisle continues its slow closure as a winery. They will be missed. This is from their home vineyard. From their web site, this wine is 87% Zinfandel
13% Mixed Black Varieties (Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah, Grand Noir, Peloursin, Trousseau noir, Tempranillo, Carignan, Muscadelle, Malvasia, Muscat, Clairette blanche and 31 other varieties). Purple in color with some ruby hues, opaque and bright. The nose is vibrant. Aromas of raspberries, black cherries, slight bramble, briar and slight white pepper. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, this is delicious. Youthful but open and drinking well. Flavors of raspberries, plums, sour cherries and black cherries with some pepper and spice. Long finish. This drinks well on its own and will work well with bolder flavors. A nice choice with grilled foods such as Ribs or BBQ Chicken.
