2022 Gehricke Zinfandel, USA, California, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Wine Review

This is a blend of 85% Zinfandel and 15% Petite Sirah from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma. Purple in color with some ruby hues, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is nice with strawberries, slight raspberries, black pepper and slight spice. Medium bodied. Light tannins. Nice balance. On the palate, this drinks easily. Very smooth. Flavors of raspberries, slight strawberries with some black pepper. Good finish. This leans toward the claret/elegant side of zinfandel. It is drinking well now and should have another seven to ten years left. Nice on its own, this is a very food friendly wine. A great choice for Pizza Night!

Portrait of an Old Vine

In the winter, they stretch above the ground like old crows’ claws reaching for the sky. This is a blend of 86% Zinfandel with 14% other varietals from the Russian River Valley in Sonoma. Of course, it is Mike Officer and Carlisle's home vineyard. Purple in color with some ruby hues, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is energetic with black raspberries, black cherries, bramble, black pepper and spice (cloves?). Medium bodied. Light tannins. Great balance. On the palate, this is young but really opens with an hour or two air. Plenty of depth. Flavors of black raspberries, black cherries, char and spice. Juicy. Long finish. This is delicious on its own and will work
