2021 Gaja Barolo Sperss, Italy, Piedmont, Wine Review

A Wow wine.  Pale ruby with just a hint of blue, mostly clear and bright.  The nose is exquisite with cherries, raspberries, anise, slight forest floor and just a hint of minerality (iron?).  Medium to full bodied.  Great structure and acidity.  Very firm tannins.  On the palate, despite the tannins, this is accessible.  Deep and complex with lots of fruit and a nice backbone of acidity.  Flavors of cherries and raspberries with some forest floor.  This is nice on its own but would be better with food.  A classic would be pasta with truffles in a cream sauce.  It will no doubt improve (a sure 100 pointer) with some cellaring but is fantastic right now.  Drink for the next thirty years.
