Still young, this was consumed over three days and was the best on day 3 (bottle recorked and left on counter). On opening this was nice cherries and a bit of sour cherries but lacking depth and complexity. On day 2 it blossomed and even a bit morso on day 3. Deep ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose has cherries, slight sour cherries, sandalwood, wild thyme and slight asphalt. On day 2, some forest floor notes came out. Great texture. Good balance. Firm tannins. On the palate, this has depth and layers of complexity. Flavors of cherries, forest floor and slight spice. Long finish. Nice on its own, it is a Barolo and that means it needs food to be at its best. A wild mushroom pizza would be great as would pasta with a cream and mushroom sauce. Hold for another five or ten years and drink for twenty after that.
