This is a birth year wine and was consumed on my 66th. Stood up for a week and decanted for sediment right before serving. Pale ruby/brown in color, clear but still bright. The wine took about ten minutes to shed its bottle stink and then kept improving for the next hour. The nose was a bit dusty at first but then cherries, dried cherries, dried flowers and a slight dried earthiness. A bit of asphalt after about an hour. Medium bodied. Good balance. Light to medium tannins. On the palate, this was alive and although full mature still has some fresh cherries along with dried cherries and a slight woody note (in a good way). It has pleny to depth and complexity and worked beautifully with a plate of Cavitelli pasta and cream sauce. Fully mature (unlike me) and a bit past prime (like me), this was everything and more I had hoped for. And so much fun to think as I was being born, the grapes for this were possibly being harvested as well.
