The single vineyard for this wine was purchased in 2001. It is ruby in color with slight purple hues, clear and bright. The nose is big with black cherries, slight orange peel, dust, and rose petals and with air, anise. It is deep and complex on the nose. Full bodied. It has a softer texture which should make it more accessible in its youth. On the palate, it is tight but unwinds in the glass to show a nice complexity. Flavors of cherries, raspberries, slight red apples, slight herbal notes and an interesting milk chocolate note on the long finish. Great backbone of acidity. This needs time or air if serving soon. Hold for three to five years and serve for eight to twelve after that. It is nice on its own but will be better with food. This would be great with a "designer" pizza featuring truffles and/or wild mushrooms.
