This winery has a bit of a sordid history which won't be reviewed here.  All of the wines I have opened have been proper and very enjoyable.  This one had issues with not getting thru Malo in a timely manner and it was allowed to stay that way and finish the following year.  This is a very traditional method that was utilized before there were other options (such as heating the cellar).  It seems clear that the wine might have been better but nevertheless, it is what it is.  In any event, it was an enjoyable wine.  Ruby in color with purple swirls.  The nose has a funk to it.  Sort of earthy and slight barnyard.  Also cherries with a bit of spice.  Medium bodied.  On the palate, cherries with a touch of anise.  Moderate finish.  Overall, it seems and "old school" style.  This wine was bought on release and well cellared since and is ageing at an appropriate pace.  Drink over the next five to ten years for good bottles.  It is better with food; Roasted Duck would be a nice choice.
