This was served from Magnum for a friends birthday. Quite a treat drinking a sixty year old Grand Cru but with that age, my expectations were somewhat guarded. The wine showed well if past peak (unlike the birthday girl). Deep garnet in color with just a tinge of age, clear and mostly bright. The nose was good with a nice Burgundy funk along with cherries, macerated cherries, spice and leather. Medium bodied. Tannins resolved. Good balance. On the palate, there is still fruit left. Cherries, with moist earthiness and good acidity. It drank fine on its own but a piece of cheese may have helped it a bit. On its own, probably an 88 point wine, but given the evening and the coolness of drinking something from the past a truly memorable wine.
