Earlier this month I had the pleasure and privilege of visiting the Quintarelli Winery in Valpolicella. They make, arguably, the best wines from this region including their Amarone. Our tour and tasting was led by Giuseppe Quintarelli's grandson, Francesco (his mother is the late Giuseppe's eldest daughter.

The grounds are spectacular with gorgeous views. The winery itself is both state of the art as well as historical. If in the area, it is well worth making an appointment and paying the cover charge (60 Euros) for the visit. Of course, the wines are the stars of the show. These wines can be very expensive, so getting the opportunity to taste them was, for me, well worth it!
I did open a bottle of the 2005 Quintarelli Alzero last Christmas with friends. That bottling had been dedicated to Franca Quintarelli (Giuseppe's wife) who had recently passed and it somehow brought that bottle alive seeing her photo on the wall and speaking with her grandson.
