2019 Federico Curtaz Etna Bianco Superiore Kudos, Italy, Sicily, Wine Review

Grade:

Current Price:

This is made from Carricante grapes on the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily.  Medium yellow/gold in color, clear and bright.  The nose is nice with almonds, slight lemon peel, and slight green apples along with nice minerality and just a hint of smoke (or am I imagining this).  Medium bodied.  Nice creamy texture.  Great balance.  On the palate, this is crisp and delicious.  Flavors of lemons, slight apples and minerality.  Good finish.  This is nice on its own but better with food.  It went very nicely with Pesto Farfalle with Tofu.  Drink over the next few years.

2022 Early Mountain Vineyards Petit Manseng, USA, Virginia, Wine Review

This is 98% Petit Manseng with 2% Sauvignon Blanc. While I slightly preferred the Intention, this is outstanding as well. Early Mountain in particular and Virginia in general are really making some exciting wines from Petit Manseng and Sauvignon Blanc. This is light golden in color with just a touch of green hues, clear and bright. The nose is fresh and vibrant with orange zest, slight dried herbal note, powdered ginger and a hint of vanilla. Medium bodied. Creamy texture. Nice balance. On the palate, this is crisp and tasty.

An excellent Pinot Grigio from Northern Italy.  Light golden in color with a light touch of copper, clear and bright.  The nose is clean with nice minerality, crushed rocks, slight lime, a bit of almonds and steely finish.  Medium bodied.  Juicy texture.  Crisp acidity.  13.5% abv.  On the palate, this is tasty with Granny Smith apples, lots of stony minerality and a long finish.  This is great on its own and will work with some foods.  This would go well with Pasta in a cream sauce but also, think Grilled Shrimp.  Drink over the next two or three years.

Cuvaison 2021 Méthode Champenoise Brut Rose

Vintage:

Score:
92
Grade:
A
Current Price:
$60.00USD

This 2021 Brut Rose marks Cuvaison’s ninth vintage of producing a sparkling wine. Comprised of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, there is a lovely delicateness to this wine, a softness that is alluring. You will find notes of strawberry, raspberry, light lemon chiffon, white peach, violet petals, rose water, a hint of black cherry, and lime peel. There is a compelling minerality running through this along with a moderate acidity to make this structurally competent. The fruit is evident, the bubbles inviting and this makes for a great food companion

1998 Château Lynch-Bages, France, Bordeaux, Wine Review

Always a classic.  At age 27, this still has plenty to offer.  Deep ruby in color, mostly clear and bright.  The nose has tobacco, earthiness, dried cherries, cassis and spice.  Full bodied.  Tannins mostly resolved.  On the palate, this is fully mature and past prime but still has a lot going on.  Layers of dried and fresh cherries with some cassis and spice.  A bit of a leathery quality as well as earthiness.  Good finish.  This will benefit from food.  A Beef stew would work well.  Drink up.
