2023 Tenuta Guado al Tasso (Antinori) Bolgheri Il Bruciato, Italy, Tuscany, Wine Review

This is a delicious blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Cabernet Franc, 19% Merlot, and the remainder Syrah and Petit Verdot from the coast in Tuscany. It is purple in color with some ruby hues, opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, cherries, tobacco, chocolate and spice. Full bodied. Firm tannins. Great backbone of acidity. On the palate, flavors of black and red cherries, some black raspberries with underlying forest floor and some chocolate. Long finish. This is nice on its own but will be better with food. A nice choice for Pizza night but a good choice in a restaurant as it is not crazy priced. Drink over the next seven to ten years.

This is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot from Tuscany. Purple in color with some garnet swirls, mostly opaque and bright. Great nose with cassis, black cherries, graphite and clay. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, flavors of cassis, clay and a bit of chocolate. Long finish. This is drinking well now and should have another eight to twelve years left. Nice on its own, this would be a nice match with Spaghetti Bolognaise.

This is a Bordeaux blend from Tuscany. It is comprised of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petite Verdot. Purple in color with ruby swirls, Mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, cherries, mike chocolate, spice and tobacco. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, cassis, cherries, fresh cut oak, chocolate and a bit of funk. Long finish. This is a great "Bordeaux" styled wine (you can also call it a Super Tuscan) for the money. It is drinking well now but may still improve with some cellaring. Drink over the next ten years. This is one of the great wines of the world. This is a Bordeaux blend made in Tuscany. 2015 was an excellent if quite ripe vintage. All of that ends with a wine that is no where close to being ready to drink. It doesn't matter how young you like your wines, this needs time. If I had to drink a bottle now, i would decant it for a week. It is tight, brooding and a monster. That said, it will eventually be a tremendous wine. Purple in color. Ordered off the wine list at Eduardo's in Chicago (Gold Coast) for $80. A nice find except that it was so young, it really should have been decanted. It is a blend of 56% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Petit Verdot. Deep ruby in color with some purple hues, mostly clear and bright. The nose is nice with black cherries, cherries, tobacco, spice and char. Full bodied. Light to medium tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, there is some varietal complexity but this is very tight. It never fully opened as the bottle was drained. That said, it was enjoyable

A perennial favorite in my household going back to the days when this was labeled as Chianti. A very nice value and a wine that will age for a few years anyway. Purple in color, slightly opaque and bright. The nose is dusty, slightly smoky, with nice cherry fruit. On the palate, this has nice layering. Not too deep or complex but what is there is developed. It certainly seems as though there are some Bordeaux varietals in this wine, but I am unsure of the blend. It drinks more like a Bordeaux of similar price. The fruit is riper though.
