Turnbull is quite adept at turning out excellent Cabernet, and has been doing so since 1979. With the 2021 Fortuna Vineyard Cabernet, the fruit is evident: blueberry, blackberry, black cherry, vanilla, sandalwood, charred wood with light violet, and new leather. But it is seamlessly supported by acidity and a judicious oak program. The best part of this wine is the harmonious nature of it because you can taste the oak and vanilla, but the fruit as well, the tannins and the subtle acidity. Obviously this is how a wine should be – an expressive palette of flavor and texture – but not all wine succeeds in this endeavor. Turnbull does, and does it consistently. The end result is a lovely traditional Napa Valley Cabernet that makes for an enjoyable drinking experience. ORIGIN: Oakville, Napa Valley. ALCOHOL: 14.2%
