NV Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Único Reserva Especial 2011, 2012, 2013 (2025 Release), Spain, Wine Review

The Reserva Especial is a blend of three vintages. In this case, 2011, 2012, and 2013 and released in 2025. Wow! An amazing wine! garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is one that a person could sniff all night long. Black cherries, cherries, balsamic, black pepper, slight tobacco and a dry earthiness. Great balance. Medium to firm tannins. Complex. Deep. On the palate, this is a contemplative wine. Layers of black cherries and cherries, with earthiness, balsamic, and a hint of dark chocolate. Long finish. Drinking very well and should for another twenty years. It is great on its own and wile it would be great with many foods, make sure the food does not distract from experiencing this wine. It is a wow!

This is drinking well and seems to be at or possibly just pack peak. It is a pretty modern take on Tempranillo but with some bottle age it shows traditionally. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, cedar and spice. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, cherries with spice and slight smoke. Nice finish. This is ageing gracefully and doesn't seem almost twenty years old. That said, these should be drunk up at this point. Nice on its own but better with food. It would work well

This is a Tempranillo wine. Deep ruby in color. The nose has cherries,black cherries and baking spice. Also some dustiness. On the palate, this has a nice texture. It is warm and dusty with black cherry fruit. Some complexity. Nice finish. This will still get better but it is drinking well right now. Another few years and it should be close to peak. It will go well with roasts and grilled meats.

Wow. This is smoking right now. Probably at or very close to peak but should stay there for a decade. Ruby in color. The nose is great with cherries, sandalwood, dust and a bit of dry earthiness. On the palate, this has great balance. Good acidity. Light tannins. Complex with layers of cherries, slight dried cherries, spice and earth. It does have a slight roasted quality but not in the fruit just a sort or arid quality (terroir?). Absolutely great with food. This wine is not inexpensive but worth buying 2 bottles; one to drink soon and one to lay down.
