2021 Louis Latour Pinot Noir Domaine de Valmoissine, France, Coteaux du Verdon, Wine Review

This is a great value in Pinot Noir. Deep garnet/purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cherries, black cherries, and spice. Clean. Medium bodied. On the palate, black cherry fruit with some spice. Good finish. This is a surprisingly bigger and riper Pinot (for France) than expected. That is not to say over done. Good finish. Nice on its own, this should work well with many foods. Salmon would be nice. It was nice with pasta in a mushroom sauce. Drink over the next five to seven years.

This is a still red wine (Pinot Noir) made in the Champagne region of France. Garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with cinnamon, cherries, slight black cherry, and a bit of poblano pepper. Medium bodied. Good acidity. Light tannins. On the palate, this is a slightly watery, slightly bitter note that is unusual in a Pinot but also plenty of cherries and a bit of green pepper. This took a while to open. In fact, about 3 hours until it really started to hit its stride. My score went from an 88 to a 91 during that time, so I guess this needs some cellaring or time. Ruby/purple in color. The nose is tight but eventually shows some cherries and cherry powder. Some spice and an interesting iron note. On the palate, this has tart cherries. With air, they got a bit fresher and riper. The finish was more about sour cherries. Nice texture. Some depth.

Bichot makes a lot of Pinot in Burgundy, but this wine is from two different areas near Limoux in the foothills of the Pyrenees in Languedoc-Roussillon in the south of France.

At or near peak and drinking well. Garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose is great with cherries, slight funk. slight black cherries and spice. Medium bodied. On the palate, bold cherry and some black cherry fruit. Slight forest floor and mushroom underneath. Nice energy and balance. Good finish. This should drink well for another ten to twelve years. Great on its own, this would work well with salmon or a mushroom dish.
