Typically my favorite of the Clerico lineup (although there are a couple that give it a run for their money), the 2021 is exceptional if quite young. Garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose is tight but opens to show cherries, nutmeg, dust, slight menthol, and orange peel. Full bodied. Vibrant energy! Well balanced. Firm tannins. On the palate, this is deep and complex with tight layering. Flavors of cherries, slight dried cherries, dried floral notes, and spice. It takes some time but unwinds beautifully in the glass. If opening soon, give it a day of air, otherwise, hold for ten and drink for twenty after that. Look for complex but not too bold food choices. Slow cooked and braised meat dishes or Pasta with a cream sauce would enhance the wine.
