Garnet in color, mostly clear and bright. Black cherries, some cassis, a bit of black pepper, and a dried floral note. Medium to full bodied. Light tannins. Nice mouthfeel. On the palate, black cherries and cherries with spice and a slight earthiness. Moderate acidity. Nice finish. This is drinking well and should continue for another seven to ten years. Nice on its own, this also works well with food. Chicken paprikash would be a good match.

This is 100% Pinot Noir from non-grafted vines planted in the 70's and 80's. One of the best Oregon Pinots tasted. Medium ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is classic with cherries, slight sour cherries, sandalwood, and tea leaves. Complex if tight. Medium bodied. Light to medium tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, this is young but complex. Cherries, black cherries, slight Kirsch with some underlying forest floor and spice. Not a big wine, but very concentrated. Long finish with slight warmth. This is 100% Pinot Noir from Oregon. Medium ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is nice with cherries, cranberries with a touch of black cherries. Also, some dust and spice. Plush texture. Medium to firm tannins. Good balance. On the palate, this is a bit more robust. Cherries, black cherries, slight anise and spice. Deep. A bit of mint on the finish. This is drinking quite well once it opens. Bigger in style for Oregon and very accessible. It should drink well for six to eight more years. Great Pinot Noir—the Holy Grail of winemakers from France to Australia and the US, and one of the most notoriously difficult grapes to grow. The thin-skinned varietal is susceptible to rot, viruses and diseases and needs a perfectly cool climate and exacting vineyard management to thrive. After the grapes are harvested the winemaker has plenty of decisions to make, including whether or not to fine and filter the wine, how much tannin the final product should have and choosing a precise regimen of oak aging, since Pinot’s delicate flavors can easily be masked by the flavors of wood. It’s easy to make a disappointing, thin-tasting wine from this grape, but really fine Pinot is the stuff of the gods and the combination of ripe fruit and spice flavors, low tannin and high acid make Pinot Noir one of the most food friendly wines in the world.
