Mostly shut down at this point. It is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc according to the winemaker's notes. Purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has cherries and cedar. Medium bodied. Medium tannins. Delicious on the palate if one dimensional. Black cherries. Moderate finish. This should be held for five to seven years and then consumed over the next ten to twelve.
It seemed like a bad idea opening such a young Bordeaux, but this was surprisingly still open and drinking well. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, cassis, chocolate and spice. Medium to full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, black raspberry fruit with black cherries and underlying char. Plenty of depth. Complex. Good finish with some milk chocolate notes. This is delicious. It will be interesting to see where this goes from here. Does it shut down? Does it develop more with cellaring. In any event it is excellent right now.
Another of the better right banks that gave a disappointing performance. This vintage seems to have shut down quickly. Perhaps that's an excuse but it was pretty consistent in the better Merlot based wines. Purple in color, mostly opaque if a bit flat. The nose has cherries and spice along with a slight salinity. This had been decanted for an hour or so. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose is dusty with cherries. On the palate, slight tannins. Tart cherries. Some complexity. Seems to be nearing but not quite at peak. Nice with food.
