2019 Carlisle Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard, USA, California, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Wine Review

From Mike Officer's home vineyard, another in the Carlisle collection of excellent Zinfandels. Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black cherries, raspberries, slight leather and citrus. Full bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, this is young but delicious. Black raspberries, black cherries, and spice. Some minty on the finish. This should drink well for the next ten to twelve years. Great on its own, this will work well with a burger or ribs off the grill.

From Mike Officer's home vineyard, the Carlisle Zin is great in every vintage but in 2018 they continued to exceed expectations. A blend of mostly Zinfandel (86%) and 14% mixed "black" grapes including Alicante Bouschet and Cinsault from 91-year-old vines. Inky purple swirls with deep ruby hues make for a very attractive appearance. Opaque and bright. The nose is concentrated with raspberries, black cherries, slight pine and spice. I love Carlisle Zinfandels. Mike Officer makes a bunch of them, but this is my favorite one. Purple in color. The nose has some bramble, dark cherries and a bit of pepper. What i find I like consistently from vintage to vintage, however, is the texture. It is round, lush, and delicious without being over the top. Black cherries, raspberries, and black licorice. No heat. Each sip makes we want to take another. It is food friendly, but these seem to go down too quickly. Its hard to not gulp. This should age easily for another five years and probably ten or more.
