This is always a great value in Barolo. Of course, this is still quite young, but this is drinking well. Ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries and anise. With air, a bit of rose comes out. On the palate, this is medium bodied. Medium tannins. Plenty of cherry fruit. Good acidity. Nice finish. This will surely continue to develop for five to ten more years but I am not sure if it gets better. It will work well with cassoulets and roasts.

Vietti makes some great value wines and some top Barolos. This one is their entry level Barolo and it is a very nice value and a very nice Barolo! At age 19 from a great vintage, this is showing some maturity but certainly not all the way there yet. Purple in color, ruby at the rim with no browning. The nose is nice with cherries, black cherries, spice and tar. Medium to full bodied with light tannins. On the palate, this has a nice complexity as the layers unwind in the glass. This is the basic Barolo from Vietti although don't forget about their Perbacco which is a Nebbiolo that is a spectacular value. This is in a good place right now if still a bit on the young side. It was around $53 on release and can still be found for close to that. If opening soon, give it a decant of a few hours. Lighter ruby in color with hints of orange. The nose is great with gorgeous cherries, tar and roses. Complex and deep. It is not quite as expressive or complex on the palate. Perhaps that is something that further cellaring will bring. This is a more accessible style of Barolo. Ruby in color with slight browning (normal even in a young Barolo). Clear and bright. The nose has cherries, anise, cranberries, and a very slight floral quality. Medium to full bodied. Very firm tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, cherries and slight rhubarb note with underlying char and slight anise. Long finish. This is always one of the best values out there in red wine. It drinks like a mini-Barolo. Ruby, clear and bright. The nose has roses, slight earthiness and cherries. With air, some sour cherries emerge. On the palate this is complex and layers of sherries, earth and tobacco are found. Great acidity. Nice finish. At eleven years from vintage, this seems at peak but has at least five or six years left. Current vintages are still available all over for under $25 per bottle. Great with food.

Barolo's, like most wines, are available in wide price points and quality levels. Savvy shoppers can often find some of the mid-range producers at less expensive pricing and that can be a nice buying opportunity. This is one that fits into that category. It cost about $30 just a few years ago. It was young and needed some time, but for this class of Barolo, ten years is a good time to check in. And this is drinking very nicely now.
