Wow, is this good. $30 retail and a great value at that price. Ruby in color with some purple swirls. The nose has sour cherries, cherries, anise, slight spice. On the palate, this has a wonderful texture. Medium bodied but lush. Great acidity. Juicy black cherry fruit. Deep and some complexity. Light tannins. Great with food. It is delicious.
Wow. This is impressive. For the Beaujolais purist this might be too much but for the rest of us, this is delicious and a great wine. A prior review can be found on this site from a couple of years ago, but it has improved since then. Purple in color. The nose has black cherries, figs, slight black raspberries and a bit of spice. On the palate, this has medium tannins. Lots of black raspberry fruit with some black cherries and slight fig. A bit of black olives too. Deep and complex, this is delicious and interesting. Another in the old school style of Cru Beaujolais. Garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose has cherries, some black cherries and what a friend noted as "Autumn spices" i.e. cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. Medium bodied. Light tannins. Good balance. On the palate, black cherry fruit with a touch of anise. An almost menthol note on the finish. This drinks well on its own but even better with food. Poached salmon would work well. Drink over the next ten years or so.
Does Beaujolais age? This was opened at a recent tasting of Beaujolais to show that it really does. Not even a specific Cru, with the original $15 price sticker still on the bottle, this was fresh and drinking well. Is it an amazing wine? No, but it is solid and enjoyable. Ruby in color with some darker swirls. The nose has fresh cherry fruit and slight candy. Medium bodied. No tannins. On the palate, cherries with some depth. Good acidity. Nice finish. This drinks nicely on its own and would work great with a mushroom pizza.
A really lovely wine for $20. This is a Cru Beaujolais that is drinking great now and should be good for another 7 to 10 years! Deep garnet in color. Clear and bright. The nose has cherries and slight cherry powdered drink mix. On the palate, tart bing cherries with slight tannins. Slightly sour (in a good way) on the finish. In ten years, this should drink like a Pinot of comparable age. It is very food friendly with good acidity. Think anything from Salmon to mushroom dishes to poultry.
This is the top cuvee from one of the top producers in Beaujolais. Deep ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has a significant amount of barnyard on it. While I enjoyed it, this may be off putting to some. Also, plenty of cherries, black cherries, and charred wood. On the palate, the cherries come thru along with some sour cherries, and a bit of earthiness. Plenty of depth. Great acidity. Still showing very young with light tannins. Nice finish. This probably needs another three to five years if well stored. It will work well with casseroles and stews as well as roas
