2015 Marcel Lapierre Morgon Cuvée Marcel Lapierre MMXV, France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Wine Review

This is the top cuvee from one of the top producers in Beaujolais. Deep ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has a significant amount of barnyard on it. While I enjoyed it, this may be off putting to some. Also, plenty of cherries, black cherries, and charred wood. On the palate, the cherries come thru along with some sour cherries, and a bit of earthiness. Plenty of depth. Great acidity. Still showing very young with light tannins. Nice finish. This probably needs another three to five years if well stored. It will work well with casseroles and stews as well as roasted meats or fowl.

I love Beaujolais. At least the Cru wines. They are versatile, friendly and although not everyone agrees, the best ones age wonderfully. So, when at a friends house for dinner recently and he had prepared a Cauliflower dish with pesto that seemed a difficult food match, I suggested he open this. A good choice. Deep ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has cherries, plums, spice and some barnyard. On the palate, there are cherries with slight almonds and slightly dry tannins which all worked together in a good way. Good acidity. Nice finish.

Wow. This is impressive. For the Beaujolais purist this might be too much but for the rest of us, this is delicious and a great wine. A prior review can be found on this site from a couple of years ago, but it has improved since then. Purple in color. The nose has black cherries, figs, slight black raspberries and a bit of spice. This is an outstanding wine. If you are not looking at Cru Beaujolais wines then you are missing out on one of the real value regions for red wines anywhere. This one retails for $30 but if you're lucky, you can find it for less. The bottle I tried was $20. Ruby in color, a bit muddled. The nose is great. Dusty with some decayed meat (in a good way), earth and plums. A slight asparagus note. On the palate, this has a lovely texture. Plush with few seams. Medium bodied. Medium tannins. In a recent tasting of Cru Beaujolais, this was my top rated wine. It is a big wine, but has the structure to hang the fruit on and everything is in proportion. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, mostly opaque and bright. Great nose. Some oak showing but not overbearing. Cherries, black cherries, dark chocolate, slight spice and even a floral tone. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, this is delicious. Black cherries, cherries, a bit of anise and dark chocolate. Long finish. Wow, is this good. $30 retail and a great value at that price. Ruby in color with some purple swirls. The nose has sour cherries, cherries, anise, slight spice. On the palate, this has a wonderful texture. Medium bodied but lush. Great acidity. Juicy black cherry fruit. Deep and some complexity. Light tannins. Great with food. It is delicious.
