Does Beaujolais age? This was opened at a recent tasting of Beaujolais to show that it really does. Not even a specific Cru, with the original $15 price sticker still on the bottle, this was fresh and drinking well. Is it an amazing wine? No, but it is solid and enjoyable. Ruby in color with some darker swirls. The nose has fresh cherry fruit and slight candy. Medium bodied. No tannins. On the palate, cherries with some depth. Good acidity. Nice finish. This drinks nicely on its own and would work great with a mushroom pizza.

This wine is named for the three vineyards that the fruit comes from: Rochegrès, Roche Noire and La Rochelle. The winery is also known as Domaine Vissoux. Ruby in color with slight purple hues. The nose is lighter but nice with cherries, and a slight celery seed note. Interesting. Medium bodied. On the palate, nice cherry fruit with the celery seed coming thru. Good acidity. Long finish. In an era when many Cru Beaujolais are getting riper, this is more classic in style. The acidity really kicks off the finish. This will drink better with food. It would be a great match with a

A personal favorite of mine, from an excellent vintage. This wine still needs some time to come together, but I think it will. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is tight. It does open to show black cherries and black raspberries with a bit of spice. Medium to full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, black cherry fruit. Lush texture. Good acidity. Nice finish. Give this wine a nice decant or cellar for a few more years. Drink over the next ten years. Nice on its own, this will work well with food. Roasted duck or other fowl would be a good choice.

A really lovely wine for $20. This is a Cru Beaujolais that is drinking great now and should be good for another 7 to 10 years! Deep garnet in color. Clear and bright. The nose has cherries and slight cherry powdered drink mix. On the palate, tart bing cherries with slight tannins. Slightly sour (in a good way) on the finish. In ten years, this should drink like a Pinot of comparable age. It is very food friendly with good acidity. Think anything from Salmon to mushroom dishes to poultry.

Wow. This is impressive. For the Beaujolais purist this might be too much but for the rest of us, this is delicious and a great wine. A prior review can be found on this site from a couple of years ago, but it has improved since then. Purple in color. The nose has black cherries, figs, slight black raspberries and a bit of spice. On the palate, this has medium tannins. Lots of black raspberry fruit with some black cherries and slight fig. A bit of black olives too. Deep and complex, this is delicious and interesting. Wow, is this good. $30 retail and a great value at that price. Ruby in color with some purple swirls. The nose has sour cherries, cherries, anise, slight spice. On the palate, this has a wonderful texture. Medium bodied but lush. Great acidity. Juicy black cherry fruit. Deep and some complexity. Light tannins. Great with food. It is delicious.
