2015 Bedrock Wine Co. Petite Sirah Drummond's Cuvee, USA, California, Wine Review

What a great showing for this wine. Consumed over two nights, this was better on the second night. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with boysenberries, charred gravel, spices and slight black licorice. Full bodied. Wonderful texture. This has a nice depth and complexity which did not show until the second day. Firm tannins. Nice black raspberry fruit with underlying char. Nice finish. Delicious. These need more time, but if opening soon, give it a long decant. Probably best to wait five to seven years and it will be god for ten to fifteen more after that. It drinks well on its own now or with big bold food. A couple points of upside on the score with some cellaring.

Obviously way too young, but, this was open and delicious. For about an hour or so, and then shut down tight. We recorked and sampled over the next couple nights. Day 2. Still shut down. Day 3. Drinking well and the bottle was drained. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, gravel, char and spice. Thick tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, loads of boysenberry fruit with underlying char. Deep but like looking into a bottomless hole. Long finish. Not sorry to have tried it, but the remaining bottles will need a rest. This is a nice tale on Petite Sirah made from Howell Mountain grapes. It is quite intense and will need some cellar time to reach full potential. Inky purple in color. Opaque and bright. The nose is tight but has boysenberries, slight pencil lead and slight gravel notes. On the palate, firm tannins. Boysenberry fruit. Very tightly packed. Persistent finish. It is quite tasty but clearly will have more to offer in five to ten years. It should be best in seven to fifteen or so years. This will drink better with food such as roasts, stews and casseroles. Pallisades is one of the great Petite Sirah vineyards and Carlisle really nailed it with the 2016 vintage. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with boysenberries, gravel, blueberries and spice. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, this is delicious. Boysenberries, black cherries, blueberries with underlying gravel. Clean. Long finish. This is drinking well now but still young and may improve. Drink over the next fifteen years. Nice on its own, this would work well with grilled meats.

What a great wine. Now that this winery is no longer in business, I wonder who gets these grapes? This was Halcon's last year I believe. Inky purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright. The nose has boysenberries, gravel, and spice.

The cork crumbled on opening and the wine was decanted. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, char, slight ink scent and a bit of blueberries. Full bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, the blueberries are more pronounced and plenty of boysenberries with underlying char. Still has youthful energy. Good finish. This is drinking well now but still young. No harm opening or letting it age another ten to fifteen years. It probably won't get much better. It will work well with pizza, burger but also roasts and grilled foods.
