What a great wine. Now that this winery is no longer in business, I wonder who gets these grapes? This was Halcon's last year I believe. Inky purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright. The nose has boysenberries, gravel, and spice. Plush texture with crisp acidity. Firm tannins. On the palate, juicy boysenberry fruit with underlying gravel and char. Deep. Satisfying. Long finish. This needs more time, hold for another five to ten years and drink for ten to twenty after that. Nice on its own, this will work better with food. Something fatty would help the tannins for now, maybe Prime Rib. Tremendous value.

Another tremendous wine from Halcon, which, sadly for us, has just been sold. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with boysenberries, plums, black pepper and char. Full bodied but with vibrancy and energy. On the palate, black raspberries, plums and char underneath. Great acidity. Long finish. This wine won't hit its peak for another ten years or so and should drink well for another twenty after that. Given its price though, its worth drinking a few on the young side. Delicious. This is one of my favorite Petite Sirahs out there. At age 7, this is still a youngster, but it is delicious. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, char and spice. Full bodied. On the palate, this is intense. Lots of precision. Very deep. Boysenberries over a char base. Great balance. Delicious. Long finish. Great value, too! This should drink well for another ten to fifteen years, but it is so good now. Works great on its own or with spicy foods or fatty foods.

I absolutely loved this wine. And for $32, this is a great value. What I like about Petite Syrah is that it is not as boisterous as Syrah but in a similar vein. The two grapes are not (at least closely) related. Many times it seems Petite producers try to "correct" for this and get too much ripeness. It is a fine line, but this wine really does a wonderful job of expressing the true qualities of Petite. It does need some air and time to open, so keep that in mind if drinking now. Obviously way too young, but, this was open and delicious. For about an hour or so, and then shut down tight. We recorked and sampled over the next couple nights. Day 2. Still shut down. Day 3. Drinking well and the bottle was drained. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, gravel, char and spice. Thick tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, loads of boysenberry fruit with underlying char. Deep but like looking into a bottomless hole. Long finish. Not sorry to have tried it, but the remaining bottles will need a rest. Palisades is one of the best Petite Sirah Vineyards anywhere. Now, that is somewhat a backhanded compliment as there just aren't that many of those vineyards. Still, this is one worth checking out. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has boysenberries, char and slight spice. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, juicy black raspberries with underlying gravel and char. Long finish. This is very young and although approachable, it will get better. It could really use about ten years in the cellar. Patience will be rewarded. In any event, this makes good drinking
