2013 MacDonald Cabernet Sauvignon, USA, California, Napa, Wine Review

This bottle was opened and allowed to breathe and sampled over a couple of hours.  Purple in color, opaque and shimmering bright.  The nose is big.  Aromas of cassis, cigar box, slight forest floor, cedar, clay and baking spices.  Firm tannins.  Great texture.  Deep and complex if still tightly wound.  It unwinds in the glass to show cassis, earthiness, slight cedar, baking spices and char.  Not a huge wine but very intense and concentrated.  Long finish.  This is not quite "classic" but more in that style.  It is wonderful on its own and with some cheese but would be just as good at the dinner table.  It will work well with meaty dishes but also root vegetables.  It should go another fifteen to twenty five years.
