2001 was such a great vintage and the wines from Sauternes or Barsac are in a gorgeous place right now. Golden orange in color. The nose is beautiful with honey and apricots. Slightly sweet on the palate. Oranges and apricots with honey. Viscous with a nice backbone of acidity. Long finish. This is complex and layered and demands ones attention. The first sip tastes good, then evolves on the palate and just does not let go. Works great with blue cheese or a savory dessert.

Always a treat to try this wine which is one of the best, if not the best, wines made in Barsac (next to Sauternes). This is young but gorgeous. Light golden in color. The nose is so pretty with cantaloupe and honey and a slight salinity. On the palate, this is sweet, not cloying with an unctuous texture. A nice bit of acidity to keep it lively though not a lot. The melon and honey come thru to the palate along with some apricot. Long finish. This will easily last another 25 years or more if well stored. This is one of the better houses making sweet dessert wines in Barsac. This one was no exception. Light copper/orange in color. Perhaps a bit darker than expected but not an issue. On the nose, there is tropical fruit, slight each and a slight kindling smoke note. On the palate, this is rich. Plenty of Botrytis but good acidity to offset the sweetness. Honey and tropical fruit on the palate. Clean. Long finish. This is great on its own or with a more savory dessert (no chocolate). It should easily last another fifteen to twenty years.

Wines from this winery keep showing up from the early 70's. I am not sure of the story, but it seems to stem from the sale of the winery and vineyards in 2014 from the Lurton family to Dennis Debourdieu. The vineyards were ripped up and new plantings incorporated into Chateau Doisy-Daene. It is an old estate in fact, it was classified as a second growth in the 1855 classification of Bordeaux.
