Later vintages of this wine are now labelled Gran Riserva. It is a great example of how long the better Chiantis can last. This has 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Deep ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose is complex and deep with cherries, black cherries, slight tar, spice and forest floor. Fulll bodied. Tannins mostly resolved. A nice backbone of acidity. On the palate, this is tasty with black cherries, plums, slight cigar, tea leaves and spice. Long finish. At this stage, it need food to show at its best. This would be excellent with a Wild Mushroom Ragu. Drink up soon.
