Since 1969 Cuvaison has been turning out stellar wine, and that’s not an easy task to accomplish over five decades. Their current estate Pinot Noir offers not only bright fresh fruit - strawberry, blackberry, boysenberry and Bing cherry - but also has a depth of character most Pinots at this price point do not have. There are back notes of light cinnamon, white and black pepper spice, sandalwood, and light vanilla. Using eight different clones of Pinot achieves a roundness and complexity, and the brief aging of just 10 months in just 33% new oak gives it more fruit and structure with less oak influence. Additionally, the 2023 growing season was cooler than most, which is something Pinot adapts to very well. The result then is a delightfully seductive wine at a price point that is undervalued, from a producer that knows exactly what they are doing.
