2024 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine Zinfandel, USA, California, Wine Review

This is a blend of 85% Zinfandel, 7% Carignan, 4% Cinsault and "bits and bobs" of Grand Noir, Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet and other field-blended varieties. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is deep with black cherries, raspberries, char, slight leather and herbs. Full bodied. Medium tannins. Lively acidity. On the palate, this is tasty and drinks easily. Some varietal complexity. Flavors of black cherries, sour cherries, raspberries, char and slight black pepper. Good finish. This is a great value and one of my few case purchases every year. It drinks great on its own and will wrk with bolder flavors. A perfect choice for Pizza Night. Drink over the next five to ten years.

Top Ten California Zinfandels - 2016

One of the no brainer values in California wine. This year it carries a California (not Sonoma) designation. It is a blend from various vineyards of 85% Zinfandel and the rest Mataro, Grenache, Alicante Bouschet, Carignan, Petite Sirah and what grapes might also be growing in these field blends. It is delicious. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has black cherries, raspberries, smoke, roasted herbs and spice. On the palate, this has juicy acidity. Nice texture.
