2023 Domaine Henry Pellé Menetou-Salon Rouge Morogues, France, Loire Valley, Wine Review

This is 100% Pinot Noir from the Loire Valley in France. It is more "elegant" in style. Pale ruby in color, clear and bright. The nose has cherries, rhubarb, and slight cranberries. Clean. Light, wispy tannins. Nice balance. On the palate, the flavors match the nose with cherries, rhubarb and slight cranberries. Good finish. This wine needs food to show its best. It has some complexity but is made in a lighter style. This would be a nice match with Roasted Turkey or a Mushroom Risotto. Drink over the next five years.

Often abbreviated as DRC, the winery makes some of the most exclusive and expensive wines in the world. This was accidently added to a tasting of Loire Cabernet Franc. It is of course, Pinot Noir. Certainly not a fair way to sample the wine as it was only after the wines were unveiled that the mistake was identified. A couple people did say it was Pinot like which is very impressive. Still, here is the tasting note.

At or near peak and drinking well. Garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose is great with cherries, slight funk. slight black cherries and spice. Medium bodied. On the palate, bold cherry and some black cherry fruit. Slight forest floor and mushroom underneath. Nice energy and balance. Good finish. This should drink well for another ten to twelve years. Great on its own, this would work well with salmon or a mushroom dish.

This is a still red wine (Pinot Noir) made in the Champagne region of France. Garnet in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with cinnamon, cherries, slight black cherry, and a bit of poblano pepper. Medium bodied. Good acidity. Light tannins. On the palate, this is a slightly watery, slightly bitter note that is unusual in a Pinot but also plenty of cherries and a bit of green pepper.
