A very interesting wine from the heart of Chianti.  It is a blend of 88% Sangiovese and 12% Pugnitello.  The later is an ancient grape that is being revived at San Felice with help from the University of Florence.  The name means "little fist" in reference to the tight bunching of the grape clusters.  Deep garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright.  The nose is classic with black cherries, cherries, forest floor and spice.  Medium bodied.  Nice acidity.  Light tannins.  On the palate, this is earthy with flavors of cherries and wild cherries.  Some depth.  It drinks well on its own, but this  wine is made for food.  it would be excellent with a nice plate of Pasta in a Tomato Sauce.  Drink over the next five to eight years.  It has a cool label that is apparently a map of the San Felice property.
