2022 Frog's Leap Flycatcher Red Wine, USA, California, Wine Review

The inaugural vintage of this wine. This is a blend of 33% Zinfandel, 31% Petite Sirah, 22% Merlot and 14% Syrah from various appellations around California. Deep garnet in color, clear and matte. The nose has cherries, black cherries, gravel, spice and slight mocha. Medium to full bodied. Medium tannins. Good balance. On the palate, flavors of cherries and black cherries with some chocolate and underlying char. Good finish. This is accessible and ready to go. It is nice on its own and will work well with many foods (not seafood). Baked chicken dishes would work well. Drink over the next three to five years.

This is a blend of 81% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah, and 9% Carignane. A middle of the road style of Napa Zinfandel. Deep ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, slight raspberries, bramble, gravel and spice. Medium bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, this drinks easy. Some depth. Flavors of black cherries, cherries, slight cranberries and spice. Good acidity. Nice finish. This is nice on its own and will work well with foods off the grill. Drink over the next five years.

This is the second vintage for a Red Wine Blend and I far prefer this to the 2015 version. it is a blend of 42% Zinfandel, 21% Petite Sirah, 19% "Port Grapes, and 18% Syrah. Yes, Port wine grapes can be a wide variety but I have no idea what they used and that the grapes are from Mendocino. But, for $20 retail, no need to get hung up on that. Right now it seems the Zinfandel and to a lesser extent the Syrah dominate the blend although that might change with time. It is made by Rich Parducci. What a great showing for this wine. This might be the best vintage of it to date. It is 85% Zinfandel and 15% Petite Sirah and Syrah. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has plums, black cherries, cedar and bramble. The wine sees 25% new oak. It has a soft and accessible texture. Delicious. It is a jammy styled Zinfandel with black cherry fruit and underlying minerality. There is a bit of warmth (almost a burn) that is actually very nice on the finish. One of the few wines I buy b y the case. Great wine, great value. It is a blend of 76% Zinfandel, 11% Carignan, 5% Petite Sirah, 4% Grenache, 3% Cinsault, and 1% Assorted Mixed Varieties. Purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, some black raspberries, spices and some "bramble". Medium to full bodied. Lively acidity. On the palate, this is delicious and easy drinking. Some depth. Black cherries, some black raspberries and some char. Good finish. This is a blend of 35% Zinfandel, 26% Mourvedre, 19% Tempranillo, 11% Syrah, and 9% Petite Sirah. Purple in color with some ruby hues. Opaque and dark. The nose is nice with black cherries, plums, cherries, char and spice. Full bodied. Light tannins. Good balance. On the palate, this is drinking at peak and delicious. Complex and deep. Notes of black cherries, cherries, and plums with underlying asphalt/gravel. Long finish. Drink over the next five to ten years. Great on its own, this will need big food. Ribs off the grill would be a good match.
