2019 Carlisle Zinfandel Papera Ranch, USA, California, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Wine Review

This is my personal favorite of the Zinfandels in the Carlisle lineup. It seems a bit softer yet plenty of fruit and depth. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black cherries, black raspberries, char and spice. Medium bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, black cherries and spice. Great texture. Good balance. Long finish. Drink over the next eight to ten years. Great on its own, this is a nice match with a (Veggie) Burger.

This remains my favorite Carlisle Zinfandel year in and year out. There are lots of reasons, but chief among them is the texture. So rich and lush yet the wine has so much balance and energy. A blend of 96% Zinfandel and 4% Carignan. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with raspberries, black raspberries, slight blueberries, smoke and slight bramble. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, black raspberries, raspberries and slight black cherries with smoke and some dry earthiness. Great acidity. Long finish. Delicious. This continues to be my favorite Zinfandel in the Carlisle lineup. Purple in color, ruby at the rim, opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, raspberries, slight black pepper and bramble. Medium bodied. Great, soft, but accessible texture. Balanced. On the palate, this is delicious. Black raspberries, black cherries, slight black pepper and slight char. Good acidity. Long finish. This is delicious on its own and will work nicely with foods off the grill. Drink over the next five to seven years.

I love Carlisle Zinfandels. Mike Officer makes a bunch of them, but this is my favorite one. Purple in color. The nose has some bramble, dark cherries and a bit of pepper. What i find I like consistently from vintage to vintage, however, is the texture. It is round, lush, and delicious without being over the top. Black cherries, raspberries, and black licorice. No heat. Each sip makes we want to take another. It is food friendly, but these seem to go down too quickly. Its hard to not gulp. This should age easily for another five years and probably ten or more.

So, I was visiting my sister in the Los Angeles area for Thanskgiving. I went to a local wine store in Chatsworth and there on the shelf was this wine. I doubt it had been stored pristinely, but, It ook a chance and was rewarded with my favorite Carlisle Zinfandel with some age on it, something I don't seem to have the patience or discipline for. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose was nice with black cherries and bramble and slight pepper and cedar. On the palate, it has that wonderful texture that I love about this wine.
